In the eyes of 360 ICÔN, Prince is truly an ICÔN who has made a great impression on music history. We honor the artist by looking back on his great success and sharing a few interesting facts about him.

1. HIS REAL NAME WAS PRINCE
Prince’s real name was Prince Rogers Nelson. He had two musical parents, and was named after his father's jazz combo ‘The Prince Rogers Jazz Trio’.

2. HE HAD MANY ALIASES
Prince was among other called Alexander Nevermind, Christopher Tracy, The Kid, The Purple Purv, The Minneapolis Midget, & finally The Artist Formerly Known As Prince.

As stated, his real name was Prince Rogers Nelson. But, when he was a child he was called Skipper.

3. HE WAS A JEHOVAH'S WITNESS
Baptized in 2001, Prince was a devout Jehovah's Witness; he even went door-to-door. In October 2003, a woman in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, opened her door to discover the famously shy artist and his bassist, standing in front of her home. "My first thought is ‘Cool, cool, cool. He wants to use my house for a set. I’m glad! Demolish the whole thing! Start over!'" the woman told The Star Tribune. "Then they start in on this Jehovah’s Witnesses stuff. I said, ‘You know what? You’ve walked into a Jewish household, and this is not something I’m interested in.’ He says, 'Can I just finish?' Then the bassist, gets out his little Bible and starts reading scriptures about being Jewish and the land of Israel."

4. IN 2017, PANTONE GAVE HIM HIS OWN COLOR
About a year after Prince past away, the global color authority Pantone created a royal shade of purple in honor of him. It is known as Love Symbol #2. The color was inspired by a Yamaha piano the musician was planning to take on tour with him. “The color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be." said Troy Carter, an advisor to Prince's estate. "This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever."

5. HE WROTE HIT SONGS FOR OTHER ARTISTS
Prince was a very busy man. He wrote several songs for other artists of which many became big hits including: Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”, The Bangles’ “Manic Monday”, Chaka Khan’s “I Feel for You” and Shiela E.’s “The Glamorous Life”. Others include Foo Fighters, Cyndi Lauper, Alicia Keys and Tom Jones.

6. HE SCRAPPED AN ALBUM RELEASE AFTER HAVING "A SPIRITUAL EPIPHANY."
In 1987, Prince was due to release "The Black Album." However, just days before it was scheduled to drop, Prince scrapped the whole thing, calling it "dark and immortal." The musician claimed to have reached this decision following "a spiritual epiphany." Some reports say that it was actually an early experience with drug ecstasy, while others suggested the artist just knew it would flop.

7. HE WAS A SUCCESFUL ACTOR
Prince was one of very few people to become a successful movie star and musician at the same time. On July 27, 1984, Prince topped both the film box office, single and albums charts, with his film ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘When Doves Cry’.

8. HE ACTUALLY MADE A FOLLOW-UP MOVIE TO PURPLE RAIN
Prince made a follow-up movie to “Purple Rain”, but it didn’t do so well. Unfortunately, Prince’s 2nd film, “Graffiti Bridge” did not reach nearly the success of his first movie. The flick was a flop, nominated for five Razzie Awards including Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Actor, Worst Director and Worst New Star. Yikes!

9. HE AND MICHAEL JACKSON WERE NOT FRIENDS
Michael Jackson’s hit, “Bad” was supposed to be a duet with Prince, but Prince was uncomfortable with his would-be character depiction, with the song’s opening line, Michael sings, “Your butt is mine!”.

In an interview with Chris Rock, Prince asked, “Who’s gonna sing that to whom? Because you sure aren’t singing that to me, and I sure ain’t singing it to you. So, right there, we got a problem” laughs Prince.

10. THE LAST ALBUMS HE PURCHASED WERE…
On Prince’s last Saturday (April 16^th, 2016), he stopped by The Electric Fetus, the local record store in Minneapolis, to support Record Store Day. These are the last 6 albums Price ever bought:

At the end of August, we had the pleasure of experiencing a live art and music performance by the Danish artist Christian Lemmerz and the guitarist of Sort Sol, Lars Top-Galia.

The event took place in one of the great halls at Copenhagen Contemporary and was a total of six performances over six nights in two weeks. At each performance, Christian Lemmerz painted a large white canvas with dark black paint to the tones of Lars Top-Galia and his electric guitar.

"Black and white is the essence of all colours. At the moment I reach the strongest expression only using those two." says Christian Lemmerz.

There was an intense and neurotic feeling in the room as the tones of the music started hitting the audience through a massive setup of speakers. The speakers were turned against the artist who passionately started his work of art. For about 25 minutes the music from the electric guitar played non-stop, as Christian Lemmerz carelessly brought his art to life in the eyes of the curious audience.

After the performance, we asked the artist if he usually listens to music when he works on his art. His answer was short and prompt: "Never".

CHRISTIAN LEMMERZ X SORT SOL

The performance with Christian Lemmerz and Lars Top-Galia was no coincidence, as Christian Lemmerz is the artist behind the album cover “Stor Langsom Stjerne” by Sort Sol which was released in 2017. Christian Lemmerz tells that he has known the band for many years and that they together chose the drawing for the album cover.

"EYESCAPE" AT COPENHAGEN CONTEMPORARY

You still have the chance to experience the exhibition of the six artworks by Christians Lemmerz accomplished by the music of Lars Top-Galia at Copenhagen Contemporary. The exhibition is open until November 11th, 2019. 

The obsession with cheap, disposable products has created a serious environmental crisis. It doesn’t come as a surprise for most people that plastic is one of the great sinners. 40% of all plastic produced is packaging used just once and then discarded. Since plastic isn’t biodegradable like paper or food, it stays in the environment for hundreds of years. Each year 8 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean causing the death of 100.000 marine mammals and turtles and one million seabirds.

That is crazy!

Most people who are interested in rock, are familiar with the name Guns N' Roses. The American hard rock band was formed in 1985, and got its name by combining the names of Axl Rose’s band “Hollywood Rose” and Tracii Gun’s band “L.A. Guns”.

The Guns N' Roses debut album "Appetite for Destruction" was released in 1987 and reached number one on the Billboard 200. The album included one of their most famous songs, “Sweet child o’ Mine”, the band’s only single to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

The first logo that Guns N' Roses used, was the now famous pistol logo. It features two opposing revolvers, a rose stem with thorns, and two blooming roses. If you look a little closer, you might discover a few “hidden” elements like the drop of blood dripping from the roses, said to symbolize the violence caused by guns. You might also notice that the logo taken as a whole looks like the end of a bullet.

Later Guns N' Roses introduced a re-design of their first logo. The revolvers are in the new version facing each other, there is only one rosebud, and the rose stem with thorns from the first logo, has been replaced with a barbed wire wreath. On top of the recognizable elements is a human skull with a top hat. The logo was among other times used during the release of the Use Your Illusion albums from 1991 and at the following 2 1/2 year tour.

1. AC/DC was formed in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. They took the name after they saw the initials "AC/DC" on a label on their sister’s new sewing machine. The abbreviation AC/DC stands for alternating current/direct current. The brothers felt that the name suited the energy of the music.
   
   
2. Angus is known for wearing an iconic school uniform (which was also suggested by his sister), but he tried many other looks before including Zoro, Spider-Man and a gorilla.
   
   
3. Alcohol and drug addiction are quite common among musicians, but Angus had a much healthier addiction in his early days. He used to drink gallons of milk.
   
   
4. AC/DC released their first international album High Voltage in 1976. The album was described as an "all-time low" for the hard rock genre by Rolling Stone magazine. However, they appeared on the cover of the magazine 32 years later in 2008.
   
   
5. The song "You Shook Me All Night Long" were used as torture by Navy SEALs during Operation Nifty Package in 1989. The song was played for two continuous days in the direction of Panama's leader Manual Noreiga, who had taken refuge in the Vatican Embassy. He surrendered.
   
   
6. Music biopics have been dominating Hollywood in 2019. First, Netflix released the Mötley Crüe biopic “The Dirt”, then we got the Oscar winning film “Bohemian Rhapsody” about Queen, followed by Elton John’s “Rocketman”. When Young and Williams were asked about how they would feel to have their life made into a movie, they said, "You'd want it to be accurate, right? I'd be pretty handsome. Pretty handsome people. You'd need five good-looking Brad Pitts ... Brad Pitt 1, 2 and so on ... " Can someone please clone Brad Pitt?
   
   
7. In the song “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” Bon Scott sings:
   “Call me any time
   Just ring
   36 24 36 hey”
   Unfortunately, the number belong to a couple who were being harassed by calls from AC/DC fans screaming “Hey!”. The couple sued the band, winning $250,000 in damages.
   
   
8. AC/DC has inspired many musicians including Kurt Cobain, Anastacia and Celine Dion. The first song that Kurt Cobain learned how to play on guitar was “Back in Black”, and Celine Dion and Anastacia did a cover of “You Shook Me All Night Long”.
   
   
9. The third lead singer Brian Johnson played with the band from 1980 to 2016, when he was forced to quit by his doctors due to hearing problems threatening total deafness. However, serious rumors have recently surfaced that Johnson, thanks to a new type of in-ear monitor, is working on a new AC/DC album with the band and that they are going on tour. We can’t wait!

Lis Sørensen on music, memories and her upcoming tour. 

In the eyes of 360 ICÔN, Lis Sørensen is a true icon. She has been a part of the Danish music industry for more than 40 years, creating a record of 16 solo albums and contributing to more than 100 albums. She started out as part of the band Shit & Chanel in 1976 and began her solo career in 1983 with the album ‘Himmelen ned på Jorden’ (‘Heaven on Earth’).

360 ICÔN has been more than lucky to get the chance to work with two of the icon’s album covers: her second album ‘Lis Sørensen’ from 1985 and ‘Hjerternes sang’ (‘Heart’s Song’) from 1989.

At a photoshoot just 3 weeks before the start of the great ‘Anne, Sanne & Lis’ tour, we had the chance to meet the icon for a talk about her career, memories, and the upcoming tour.

What do you remember from back then?
Actually, I vividly remember the shoot for the cover of my second album ‘Lis Sørensen’ (1985). It all went so fast. That was how photoshoots were back then when we had to make a new album cover. There was no such thing as a stylist - I just brought clothes that I felt good in. I remember only bringing one pair of nylon tights and, clumsy as I am, they were all torn up on one leg. So, when we sat down to go through pictures from the shoot, we of course discovered the torn tights. But then I actually came to the conclusion that it was kind of cool and raw, and it ended up becoming a thing for the cover. That is my greatest memory from that cover and shoot.

About back then, a lot of the external factors are different today, but the actual making of an album cover - taking the picture that matches the songs and the mood – is still kind of the same to me. I still work closely with the photographer and the whole team, and often, you still just choose one picture out of the many that are taken. Personally, I think it’s very important to take the perfect picture with the right expression to match the 12 songs on an album, which has taken a couple of years to write and make. I don’t need too many ideas on layout, style and so on, but it’s crucial to get a strong portrait of the face. All of my covers have a portrait of me to emphasise that I am behind the album.

What do the two albums mean to you?
The two albums are very important to me. They both contain songs that I still play every time I have a show. Especially ‘Tæt på ækvator’ (‘Close To Equator’) and ‘Ind til dig igen’ (‘Into you’) on the ‘Lis Sørensen’ album from 1985, and then ‘Mine øjne de skal se’ (‘Me Eyes They Must See’), ‘Fri for at drømme om dig’ (‘No Need To Dream Of You’) and ‘Hjerternes sang’ (‘Heart’s Song’) on the ‘Hjerternes sang’ album from 1989. They both contain a couple of songs that remain popular and that my audience knows really well.

Right now, I’m working on my next album, my 17th album, and the starting point is still the same as it was back then in the ‘80s. It’s all about finding the right song whether I write it myself, co-write with others, or look for a specific kind of song, and it still gives me the same kind of feeling back then as now. I go hunting and take in all kinds of ideas during the process.

After all these years, it’s still amazing what it does to me when I create and work with a new song. That feeling is essential to me and gets me every time.

Which of your album covers is your personal favourite?
My favourite album cover is ‘Lis Sørensen’, the one that you’ve also worked with. I also really like the cover of the album ‘Under stjernerne et sted’ (‘Under the Stars Somewhere’) from 1993 in which I tried to get the same kind of expression as on ‘Lis Sørensen’ with a black and white picture.

Those two album covers are my personal favourites. Both with black and white portrait pictures - one with a purple frame, and the other one with a graphic red frame.

What now?
Now, I’m going on the Anne, Sanne & Lis tour. We rehearse - and we rehearse a lot. We’re very focused, and that’s a great feeling since there is no doubt that something is at stake for us. We have a ton of huge concerts throughout the summer, and we will have a party!

But, it’s not only about playing – it is a show. And it’s bigger than anything else any of us have ever done. Of course, we have played at Grøn Koncert and similar events, but the indoor venues are bigger than anything else in our career. It will be a fantastic show, and we have a great team helping us, so we have time to focus on the music.

It’s in three weeks’ time from now, and no, we are not ready, but we will be!
