AC/DC was formed in 1973 by the brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. They took the name after their sister saw the initials "AC/DC" on a label on her new sewing machine. The abbreviation AC/DC stands for alternating current/direct current. The brothers felt that the name suited the energy of the music.
